The Republican Party has just announced their pledge to America in a new document heralded by the Republicans as their pledges and plans for the future under Republican Congressional control. This bold document, the true intentions of the Republican Party/Tea Party combine, is a warning to all Americans to oppose the Republican attempt to control Congress.
The Congressional leadership of the Republican Party released their document entitled, “Pledge to America” on September 23, 2010 that set forth their plan to move America in a different direction if they obtain control of Congress in the forthcoming Congressional elections. The document is very colorful and pictorial and the 48 pages including 22 pages of text and charts that could easily be condensed to 15 pages.
Pages 2-3 consists of a recitation of what the Republican Congressional leadership believe is the purpose of our country, the Democratic administrations faults as they portray them, and the overall pledges that will be the focus of their actions if Republican control of Congress becomes a reality on Nov. 2, 2010. Here are their pledges as written on page three of their document.
"With this document, we pledge to dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations to the permanent truths of our founding by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people. This is our Pledge to America."
"We pledge to honor the Constitution as constructed by its framers and honor the original intent of those precepts that have been consistently ignored – particularly the Tenth Amendment, which grants that all powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."
"We pledge to advance policies that promote greater liberty, wider opportunity, a robust defense, and national economic prosperity."
"We pledge to honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of our American values."
"We pledge to make government more transparent in its actions, careful in its stewardship, and honest in its dealings."
"We pledge to uphold the purpose and promise of a better America, knowing that to whom much is given, much is expected and that the blessings of our liberty buoy the hopes of mankind."
"We make this pledge bearing true faith and allegiance to the people we represent, and we invite fellow citizens and patriots to join us in forming a new governing agenda for America."
These statements represent the bases of the Republican Party—Tea Party campaign to gain control of Congress after the November 2 elections. If you can derive any real substance from these pledges, please tell me what they are. To me they are vague statements for motherhood and apple pie, and do not even include our country's basic Pledge to the United States of America---one Nation, indivisible, under God---etc.
Following their pledges, the “Republican Pledge to America” continues with statements of plans, photos of Americana including The Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, The White House, and numerous photos of Congressional Republican politicians. Two specific plans are notable. Two are discussed in this blog. Others will be discussed in future blogs.
On page six is the following statement:
"We offer a plan to
repeal and replace the government
takeover of health care with common
sense solutions focused on lowering costs
and protecting American jobs."
In addition, on page Page twenty-one:
"Establish a Hard Cap on New
Discretionary Spending"
We must put common-sense limits on
the growth of government and stop the
endless increases. Only in Washington is
there an expectation that whatever your
budget was last year, it will be more this
year and even more the next. We will set
strict budget caps to limit federal spending
on an annual basis. Budget caps were used
in the 1990s, when a Republican Congress
was able to bring the budget into balance
and eventual surplus. By cutting
discretionary spending from current levels
and imposing a hard cap on future growth,
we will save taxpayers hundreds of billions
of dollars."
If the Republicans gain control of Congress they pledge to repeal all the benefits of the new health care plan as detailed in my previous blog, and additionally put a limit (cap) on new discretionary spending. Discretionary spending includes National Defense and everything else except Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Health Care, Unemployment and Income Aid, and Federal interest payments on the Federal debt.
The two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not budgeted as part of our National Defense discretionary budget by the Bush Administration and Republican controlled Congress, and accounts for over one trillion dollars of our present debt, that continues to grow as veteran care mounts and war costs continue. How then can we trust the Republicans’ in Congress, if they regain control of Congress, to cap new discretionary spending when they allowed two wars to be budgeted by supplementary budgets? This Republican trick created a major part of our present debt, and economic problems. The Republican Party showed us how they act when in power. Can they be trusted now?
These two parts of the Republican Pledge to America are examples of Republican Congressional skulduggery that alone are enough to stop the Republicans before they cause more harm and prolong our economic recovery. Vote Democratic for all Congressional candidates on November 2, 2010, or accept the certain consequences of more economic hardship if Republicans take charge of Congress.
Topics will be discussed that involve Wisconsin and world issues related to the environment, politics, and local Door County topics. Many issues are obscured from public scrutiny by the commercial media. Attempts will be made to connect apparently disconnected events, government activities, and political actions to better comprehend what takes place "Behind the Squeaking Door".
