Headless Chicken Dance

As a child growing up in the farming section of Los Angeles (yes there was such a thing), I witnessed headless chickens scurrying about after being decapitated before becoming a family dinner. Today my memory was stoked by seeing podcasts of similar activity at Health Care Reform forums. People are scurrying about yelling and shouting to drown out informational sessions because they are opposed to reform or are led to believe it would be bad for them.

They are different from the headless chickens in one respect. Their heads are intact but their brains have been detached. If they were truly interested to learn facts their brains would have closed their lips and listen and then ask relevant questions. The headless chicken dance of death is the epitome of closed minds and such actions are not represntative of democracy as our founders envisioned.

If all debate about crucial issues emulate the headless chicken dance our country will become a third rate chicken pen suitable for chicken fights and little else. Is it not time to engage in serious discussion based upon factual information instead?
