I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!

Dear Friends,

Congressman Steve KagenI feel just like you do - I want my country back!

Like you, I believe all our Constitutional rights must be obeyed, respected and enforced by all three branches of government - especially the White House.

It's time to get back to the basics. And is it too much to ask for health care we can all afford, higher-wage jobs, tax cuts for the middle-class, an energy policy that's in our best interests instead of Big Oil's, and borders we can see and defend?

Everywhere I go, people are saying, "I want my country back!" And I agree.

And it sure didn't help this month when President Bush vetoed access to health care for more than four million low-income kids, and then asked us to spend $200 billion of our hard-earned tax dollars overseas in Iraq.

Where do you want your tax money spent - overseas in Iraq, or right here at home? The next school, the next hospital and the next bridge we build should be right here in Wisconsin, not in Iraq.

This week, I stood up - against the losing Bush policies in Iraq - by voting to provide our brave troops with equipment they need to survive, as they prepare to move away from Iraq and back after Osama bin Laden and his followers.

I voted to begin redeployment of our forces and for a change in mission – just as our most experienced military generals asked, and I am working hard to support our troops by providing them with the care the need when they return. Our soldiers covered our backs in battle, and it's time we covered theirs when they return. After all, a promise is a promise.

I am working hard to oppose the losing ideas of President Bush, Dick Cheney and his newest Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who recently commented, "the planning has been done" on "contingency plans for an attack on Iran," according to NBC News.

We cannot afford another endless war. We simply don't have the money, and our military is rapidly wearing down.

Poor judgments by the White House stuck us in the middle of the endless civil war in Iraq at a cost of over $1 TRILLION our children must repay. It will take a strong and independent voice to prevent their next private war sequel in Iran. But I need your help to keep on fighting for you. Please, help me help you.

I wish you and your family a very happy and healthy Holiday Season.

Sincerely,

Steve Kagen
